-

THE military is studying the offer of President Rodrigo Duterte on hiring New People’s Army (NPA) as Civilian Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu), adding that there are already some former communist rebels who have become part of their militiamen.

Major General Bienvenido Datuin, 10th

Infantry Division (ID) assistant division commander, said yesterday during the AFP-PNP media press forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel that top officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are ironing out guidelines in accepting formers rebels to be Cafgu.

“After the President made the statement, we immediately went to planning stage and we are of course making sure that all the requisites and requirements will be ironed out kung anong mga kailangan at kung anong mga requisites for them to enter the military,” Datuin said.

The military team is discussing the requirements, policies and guidelines that will be required for rebel returnees who wish to enter the ranks and accept the proposal of the President to help the military forces in defending the country.

“Sabi ko nga we have a human resources team who are studying with the Philippine Army and AFP general. Pinagaaraalan namin ito to immediately set the guidelines,” he said.

Once the guidelines are completed, he assured that they will release it as soon as possible.

However, he said that they will provide few adjustments on the requirements and qualifications for ex-rebels who will join the armed forces.

“Sa age siguro sa IP na join, there are some guidelines which can be waive just in order to accommodate the people but we have to study these things because meron itong repercussion in so far as retirement system is concerned,” he added.
