Botanical garden, skatepark planned

A botanical garden, mini-park and skatepark will be built in the city.

Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio, in her State of the City Address (Soca) Tuesday, said that these new parks will add to the existing People's Park and Rizal Park.

"We have identified three areas of developmen­tin Marfori area for a botanical garden, the Sta. Ana Wharf (Pier) for an open space for rest and exercise activities and underneath the Agdao flyover for a minipark and skatepark," Duterte said.

The current Davao City Engineers Office (CEO) situated at the City Hall Annex is also eyed to be moved to the current location of Museo Dabawenyo to give way to the Rizal Park extension.

"This movement will create an open space beTHE hind Rizal Park for a mini park with trees and provision for a small food hawker area," DuterteCar­pio said.

Duterte-Carpio assured that the CEO will be transferre­d to the current location of the Museo Dabawenyo without destroying the facade of the building which has a historical value to the city being the old court of first

instance in the year 1960s.

Meanwhile, Duterte-Carpio also said that the city secured the support from the Office of the President in constructi­ng the Museo Dabawenyo building that will occupy the area in the People's Park.

The Davao City Investment and Promotions Building will also be constructe­d near the People's Park and will vacate its office at Magsaysay Park.

"This building shall be built near the Pasalubong Center to move them out of Magsaysay Park in preparatio­n for the rehabilita­tion of the park. The location downtown will make them more accessible to tourists and businessme­n," Duterte-Carpio said.

Buildings for library and social services will also be constructe­d through different funding sources.

Duterte-Carpio added that the city received assistance Representa­tive Mylene Garcia for the constructi­on of the City Social Services and Developmen­t Office behind the City Hall Annex while the trust fund from the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporatio­n (Pagcor) will be used for the constructi­on of the City Library Building along C. Bangoy Street.

The mayor said that they will ensure that the new library building will make learning experience, relevant, timely, and exciting with traditiona­l books, other reading materials and electronic data and materials for public use.
