8-storey hospital to rise in Matina

CONSTRUCTION of the United Davao Specialists Hospital and Medical Center, Inc. (UDSHMCI), a Level 2 tertiary hospital in Matina, Davao City has officially started last Wednesday, September 27 and is targeted to be completed and fully operational by 2020.

Just a few meters away from Matina I.T. Park is where the group of medical doctors envisions the UDSHMC to be built. The hospital, which is going to be 8-storey and will be able to cater 100 beds, promises to have full services available to the patients such as operating room, intensive care unit, emergency room, dialysis center, and cancer clinics.

This is the first hospital of their corporation which is mostly composed of local medical doctors and is now with around 70 members.

UDSHMCI president doctor Justin Elfred Lan Paber said they have come up with the idea of the hospital early 2015.

“Although the hospital will cater full services, its specialty would be on cardiology, dental implantology, and cancer,” said corporate secretariat doctor Joseph Cachuela adding most of their member doctors and investors who are specializing on these fields.

Paber said with the establishment of the hospital they hope to help with the current dilemma of medical doctors, nurses, and other practitioners leaving the country to stay and practice here instead. They are looking forward to employ about 150 medical staff by 2020.

As new hospitals and medical centers had already expressed their plan of establishment in the

city for the next two to three years as well, Paber said what they deem to be their edge among the other medical players is the quality of their doctors.

“Any other hospital is only as good as the people working in that. Technology is available but still it’s really about people. It’s really about service. Healthcare is really about the people who are giving it rather than the technology that’s available. I think that’s our edge because the dedication of the people involved is also the dedication of the people who is building it so we hope to continue that,” Paber said.

Cachuela then added that the hospital will have its helipad for extremely emergency situations and this service might also involve the assistance of the AFP-PNP. JPA
