- By Adam B. Morrell

The Golden Wyverns nipped Red Spartans, 5554, to defend its crown in the Davao Doctors College (DDC) 2017 Intramurals college basketball tournament held at the DDC Basketball covered court recently.

Sean Kirk Africa, who emerged back-to-back finals most valuable player (MVP), paced the Wyverns with 22 points as Mark Bean Guerrero and Heishiam Lamudoc canned identical eight points to successfully seal its back-to-back title.

The Spartans, however, leaned on the services of Kevib Berdida and Patrick Borj Lao who made 15 and 12 buckets, respectively.

Wyverns coach Andre Cajes, in an interview, said the process was tough as they have to balance their studies and practices to defend the crown.

“Indeed an overwhelming success. We have to make sacrifices from time, studies and health. We are having a late night practices and early morning class,” Cajes said, citing the determination of the players and the guidance of their head coach Renille June Damaso.

With another year of preparation, the team aims to improve more as they eye for a three-peat feat next year.

The Golden Wyverns was also composed of Nikko Karl Lacaba, Kirk Yu, Clyde Emmanuel Lopez, Heishiam Lamudoc, Matthew LindO, Mec Paguital, Roy Raymundo, Adrian Longno, Aren Rivera and Marko Guerrero.
