5-year driver's license now being released

- RIZA GOLEZ

DAVAO ORIENTAL – The Land Transportation Office here has started releasing driver’s license card with five-year validity.

LTO Head Joel Mandaya said that the agency will release 500 cards for the first batch of walk-in license applicants, giving priority to driver’s license ‘backlogs’ who applied or renewed their license in November to December 2016.

While the LTO Central Office has already started the release of license cards on August 29, Mandaya said that Davao Oriental has just started the issuance of driver’s license cards due to the distance from the central office. “Nevertheless we were able to serve it to our clients and will continue to do so,” he said during the launching of the five-year validity license card on September 22.

Vice Governor Niño Uy, who was the first to be issued with the five-year validity driver’s license card during its launching here, said that “this is an advantage on the part of the drivers because it will take five years before they have to renew their licenses, compared to their previous license which expires only in three years”.

“This is a welcome development. I am very happy and I hope that soon all clients in the province will be catered and get their license cards,” he added.

While the LTO here advises their office can only produce at least 70 to 75 cards a day with card processing taking at least 10 minutes per client, the management is asking for clients’ patience and understanding.
