THE Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) welcomes two new member-companies in Mindanao during their Mindanao Membership Meeting last Friday, September 29 at the Marco Polo Hotel.

PBSP is a corporateled social development foundation in the country which is committed to reduce poverty in the Philippines. It was established in 1970 and since then had been advocating for stronger corporate citizenship through integrated corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in their member-corporations’ core businesses, and application of business strategies including Inclusive Business and the Collective Impact Framework as a means to address poverty and other big challenges in the society.

For their latest membership meeting last Friday, Plaza de Luisa Development and Maharlika Agro-Marine Ventures were welcomed as new members of PBSP Mindanao Regional Center.

Plaza de Luisa Development Corporation Managing Director Jason Huang said:

“We want our CSR to be professionalized, that’s why we joined PBSP because it is better to have one-umbrella company managing your CSRs. It’s better for us to outsource. If ever there’s a project, we’ll join.”

Their company used to be a developer of subdivision projects and then shifted to the call center industries. They also lease out commercial spaces, buildings, and retail stores.

“Maharlika started as an agricultural company. The main objective is to provide food security to the community where it operates. And at the same time, try to provide livelihood to the community. I joined PBSP because I believe that the activities that PBSP is doing are more or less aligned to the policy and the activities that Maharlika is already presently doing,” Maharlika Agro-Marine Ventures Corporation Owner Vicente Lao, however, said.

In Mindanao, the member-companies of PBSP includes Alsons Development & Investment Corporation, Anflo Management and Investment Corporation, Bali Oil Palm Produce Corporation, Century Rural Bank, Inc., Cotabato Light and Power Company, Davao Import Distributors, Inc., Davao Light & Power Company, F.S. Dizon & Sons, Inc., JEWM AgroIndustrial Corporation, Lao Integrated Farms, Inc., Mindanao Container Corporation, My Hotel, NEH Philippines, Inc., Paglas Corporation, Peoples Agri Services & Supply, Inc., Philbest Canning Corporation, Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc., Ponce-Milan Realty, Inc.
