DAVAO City Sports and Development Office Officer-in-charge Mikee Aportadera said that the organizing team of the Alveo Ironman 70.3 challenge will be sitting down with representatives of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) this week to discuss the road repairs needed for the smooth flow of the triathlon next year.

“We will also coordinate with other LGUs like Panabo and Tagum, since the bike route will reach there,” Aportadera told reporters yesterday morning.

Aportadera said that one of the requirements of hosting Ironman challenge is that the roads should be well cemented or paved with asphalt.

“Because if the bike leg will commence dapat walay buslot ang dalan (the roads should have no holes),” he added.

Aportadera said that they are coordinating with different agencies so that by 2018, roads which will be used for the race are already finished.

“We are doing our best to coordinate with the DPWH, City Engineer’s Office to help out in fixing the road for the race by next year,” he said.

Aportadera said that aside from the road repair, they are also coordinating with everybody for the security, road closures that needs cooperation of barangays.

“We have to coordinate with everybody for the security, roadworks. It is also necessary to include barangays... because there is the part of the race where we need to close roads for a certain number of hours,” he added.

The registration of Alveo Ironman 70.3 opened yesterday morning at Seda Hotel.

Aportadera said that they have a target of 1500 triathletes to join, these from different areas of the country and the whole world.

A total of 553 registered as of 8:33 am yesterday.

Among those who registered was Atty. Manases Carpio, husband of Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, who will be joining the relay thriatlon race with his team.

Carpio said that he has already signed up at a gym to prepare for the event. They will train as a team when the race nears.
