More than 100 residents attend IEC on ENR Laws
MORE than 100 residents from Barangay Mangayon gathered on Tuesday, September 19, at Mangayon National High School in Compostela, Compostela Valley for an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign on various environmental laws, policies, programs and projects of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Led by Monkayo CENR Officer Alberto N. Bandiola, the IEC was conducted to disseminate relevant information with an emphasis on the effective environmental protection, conservation and management, and wise utilization of forest resources in the areas of responsibility.
In his message, Bandiola stressed that it is his duty to promote and bring the programs and projects of the department closer to the people, particularly those who are in the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. He urged the participants to support the department’s endeavor attuned to the pursuit of sustainable development, among others.
Collaborated with other concerned agencies, Bandiola presented the department’s line bureaus, namely: (1) Forest Management Bureau (FMB); (2) Land Management Bureau (LMB); (3) Environmental Management Bureau (EMB); (4) Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB); (5) Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB); and (6) Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB).
Bandiola further emphasized that those who have owned or possessed a chainsaw or any portable power saw or similar cutting implement without permit or certificate of registration were encouraged to register the same to the office of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer in Monkayo for proper documentation.
Some salient features of Executive Order No. 23, otherwise known as the “Moratorium on the Cutting and Harvesting of Timber in the Natural and Residual Forests,” were comprehensively spelled out during the campaign as a means to strengthen the protection of the remaining forest resources.
