NCIP eyes integrated AD dev’t
THE regional office of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP 11) targets to establish three additional areas for their Integrated Ancestral Domain Development Approach (Iadda) project designed to further empower lumads.
NCIP 11 regional director Lawyer Geroncio R. Aguio yesterday said there are three Iadda pilot sites in the region situated in Paquibato, Davao City; Upper Ulip in Compostela Valley; and Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
NCIP will expand its program to the ancestral domains of Ovu Manuvu in Tambobong, Davao City, and Ata Manobo in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte, which have already been approved by their central office while the other location is still being negotiated.
“Nakit-an na pod ni sa Malacañang nga gwapo nga approach sa domain kay kat on gm ga dispersaldispersal lang muhatag
lang ka ug duha ka baboy kada province pagka next week mapiang sa piyesta (This has already been noted by Malacanang as the better approach. What has been done in the past are livelihood programs like livestock dispersal that whenever the village fiesta approaches, the swine will be reported as injured, and becomes a candidate for slaughter),” he said.
The project covers several components such as capacity development training of IP farmers, community organizing, forest protection and planting of high value crops, coffee, fruit trees, vegetable garden.
It also includes home organic fertilizer, vermiculture, livestock goat and chicken, electricity through solar panel water system, level 1 construction of farm house goat barn and poultry house. The project has helped lumad communities in their livelihood.
NCIP also conducts training on how to maintain their agricultural lands in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) who provides seedlings and other agricultural products. JCR
