Ironman slots running out
1,461 register as of Tuesday morning Only 1,500 slots for Davao
A TOTAL of 1,461 participants signed up for the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao as of 8 a.m. yesterday, barely two days after the registration opened at Seda Abreeza Hotel last Sunday.
The Davao City edition of the renowned Irorman is slated March 25, 2018 in an out-and-back course from the Alcantara Ayala Land Property in Lanang.
Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO) Michael Denton Aportadera, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao at the City Information Office (CIO), said majority of the participants are from Mindanao and more than 200 registered onsite at the Seda Abreeza T'nalak Function Room while other participants from Luzon, Visayas and foreign countries registered via online.
"Historical man gud ni siya para sa taga Mindanao kay (This is historical for Mindanaoans because the) Ironamn has finally landed here. Over a thousand already signed up, to think that the registration is still ongoing,” Aportadera said, adding that only 1,500 slots were opened for the inaugural Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao.
He named four-time Durianman champion Felipe "Jong" Sajulga of Bukidnon and country's top age-grouper Greggy Pamakid of Tri Minda as among the early registrants.
“Fifteen minutes pa lang sa atoang pag open kay naa na tay 800 plus ka registered participants. Wala mi nag expect ani ka overwhelming ang response sa atoang triathlete para sa ataoang Ironman. Siguro it’s because Davao City is the land of our President (We had over 800 entries 15 minutes after we opened the registration. We didn't expect such an overwhelming response from triathletes for our Ironman, maybe it's because the city is the President's home)," Aportadera, who is also joining the relay event, said.
Registration fees are $270 or P13,750 (individual) and $350 or P17,500 (relay) inclusive of freebies, a bag, shirt, finisher’s certificate and finisher’s medal.
“Daghan man jud ug freebies ang Ironman pero basig naay extra freebies ihatag ang Davao City because our mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio would want to showcase the city (Mayor Sara might add extra freebies)," he added.
Aportadera will do the bike course of the City Mayor's Office (CMO) relay team with runner lawyer Maneses Carpio and swimmer Vasit Venturillo.
