DAVAO City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio said City Hall has no intention to buy a breast cancer screening machine just yet as suggested by Davao City Councilor Mary Joselle Villafuerte a few days ago.

Duterte-Carpio said that a mammogram machine is expensive and the city does not have the facility to house it.

“Mammogram is an expensive equipment which is best na gamiton sa mga hospital sa kadto nang mga nakita nga dunay mga bukol so ang pinaka best way for women is mag self exam every month mao nay pinaka-libre na siya dili na kinahanglan ug doctor (Mammogram is an expensive equipment which is best used in hospitals for those who already detected lumps, so the best way is for women to conduct a self exam every

month that’s less expensive and will not require a doctor),” she said.

She added that the self exam can be conducted every month before and after menstruation.

“Mag-check sila, self-breast exam ang tawag nato and if duna silay bukol, saka pa sila muadto, kung dili man sila high risk, muadto sila sa doctor para i-check kung cancerous ba or dili ang bukol (Check their breasts and if they detect lumps, that is the time that they will go to the doctor to check if their lump is cancerous or not),” she said.

She added that the Lingap Para sa Mahirap also covers laboratory tests, including mammography.
