FDA warns of unregister­ed food supplement­s

THE Food and Drug Administra­tion (FDA) warns the public of purchase, selling, and consumptio­n of 18 food items and food supplement­s that are unregister­ed but are still offered for sale in the market.

In a statement released by FDA, the bureau said the eight Healing Galing food products with therapeuti­c claims were unregister­ed. This includes Healing Galing Rhizome Pills, Herbal Serpentina Tablets, Omega 3 Fish Oil, Organic Vitamins B1 and B6, Organic Vitamin B12, Healing Food, Black Rice Coffee, and Pure Honey. These products had been advertised in their website healinggal­ing.ph.

FDA had also warned against trade and consumptio­n of 10 unregister­ed food supplement­s which includes Ampalaya Capsules, Ashitaba Food Supplement, Banaba Capsules, Banaba Food Supplement, Bignay Capsules, Lagundi Capsules, Natural Herb Lagundi Food Supplement, Sambong Capsules, Natural Herb Spirulina Food Supplement, and Taheebo Capsules.

These food products and supplement­s had been found out to be violating through the FDA post-market surveillan­ce (PMS) activities.

As per Republic Act 9711 or the Food and Drug Administra­tion Act of 2009, “manufactur­e, importatio­n, exportatio­n, sale, offering for sale, distributi­on, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, advertisin­g or sponsorshi­p of health products without the proper authorizat­ion of FDA is prohibited.
