Secret of eternal youth

- Eddie O. Barrita

MANY people are obsessed with being forever young. One of them was Juan Ponce de Leon who, legend has it, launched a search for the fabled “Fountain of Youth.”

His search must have ended in vain because he later died in Cuba of wounds sustained in a skirmish with Florida natives who fiercely resisted his incursion.

The secret of eternal youth remains as elusive now as in Juan Ponce de Leon’s time.

••• But this secret is being slowly revealed. And it turned out it is as simple as not taking a bath too often. Flamboyant fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, 76, said her secret of eternal youth is taking a bath only once a week.

Imagine how longer you’d remain young if you take a bath only once a month or only once a year and how much you could save on your water bill?

••• Other people have shared their secrets of staying young. One said you should keep a healthy lifestyle, shunning alcohol and tobacco products, eating a balanced diet and, lastly, not telling your correct age.

But the reality is we can only be young once. Of course, one can be immature forever.

••• Alphaville’s signature song, “Forever Young,” tells of the yearning to be, what else, forever young.

“Forever young, I want to be forever young.” But it also talks on a choice of dying young or living forever. “Let us die young or let us live forever.”

But as an octogenarian priest told a lawyer, “I really wanted to die young. But I think it’s too late now.” Sun.Star Cebu
