BSP, Deped host oratorical contest
THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in collaboration with the Department of Education (Deped), will hold the 22nd BSP-Deped Annual Oratorical Contest [18th at the National Capital Region (NCR) Level] on 27 October 2017, starting at 1:00 p.m. at the BSP Assembly Hall. The contest will also serve as the culminating event for the celebration of the 28th National Statistics Month (NSM).
Sixteen 10th grade students representing the 16 divisions in the NCR will compete in the oratorical contest finals. Their oratorical pieces will highlight the importance of statistics with this year’s theme, “Figures for the Future: Realizing AmBisyon Natin 2040 Through Statistics.” AmBisyon Natin 2040 is an anchor for development planning. It represents the collective ambitions of the Filipino people for themselves and for the Philippines in the next 25 years.
For more than two decades, the oratorical contest has been an effective platform in instilling awareness on the significance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society, as well as in enjoining the public to support activities aimed at upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country. This year’s event will provide student-orators the opportunity to showcase their oratorical skills and share the Filipino youth’s appreciation of the importance of statistics as the nation treads the path towards the realization of AmBisyon Natin 2040.
The first place winner of the oratorical contest will receive a cash prize of P25,000, while the second and third place winners will be given P20,000 and P15,000. Trainers of the first, second and third place winners will be given cash awards as well. The three winners and their schools will likewise be awarded with trophies, while non-winning students and trainers will receive consolation prizes. Medals were also given during the elimination rounds at the division level.
