Kaizen donates MARTIAL ROLL proceeds to Marawi IDPs

Kaizen: Japanese Street Dining Restaurant has donated 20% of its earnings from the Martial Roll maki to internally displaced persons (IDPs) sheltered in the town of Lumbatan in Lanao del Sur.

The proceeds which totals about P20,000 were used to procure school supplies for schoolchildren and sleeping materials (pillows, blankets, mats). Many of the IDPs are those who hailed from Lumbatan and returned when the clashes began in Marawi, while a significant number are those from Marawi who found shelter in the town.

The town also had earlier IDPs who escaped from the Military-Maute clashes in the neighboring town of Butig.

The Martial Roll is a limited edition of Japanese makis or rice rolls created by Kaizen weeks after the declaration of martial law across the island of Mindanao.

The martial roll features ingredients that are commonly found in Mindanao. Meguro (tuna), avocado, cucumber and a special sauce concocted by their kitchen.

Melissa Concha Arandia-Zapanta, proprietor of Kaizen said that since its release the dish has been a wellordered specialty in their Japanese street-dining themed restaurant.

“We really wanted to help our brothers and sisters in Marawi, hence we came up with an idea for the martial roll.” Zapanta said.

"We thank our generous customers for supporting our roll and our advocacy," Zapanta added.

The martial roll is still available at Kaizen Japanese Street Dining Resto at Torres and the Kaizen Food Truck which will be participating in several food bazaars in Davao City.
