- By Karina V. Cañedo

THE Kean Gabriel Hotline has recorded a total of 10,658 prank calls from January to October 2017.

Davao City Social Services and Development Office Quick Response Team of Children’s Concern (CSSDO-QRTCC) head Juenalyn Pablo, during the I-Speak media forum on Thursday, thus advised the public to be responsible in making calls to their hotline.

“This coming October 27, it will be the first year anniversary after its launching last October 2016, our data, pataas, pababa, naay months nga mumubo ang atong cases pero ang among gusto pakusgan unta is atong katawhan nga maging responsible sa pagtawag kay nagataas ang among prank call (Our data is

fluctuating, there are months were we have few cases but what we really want to push is for the citizens to be responsible in making calls since our prank calls have been rising),” she said.

She added that last July prank calls reached up to 2,843 and in August it reached up to 2,932.

“Puro gara-gara, mga out of topic, ginahimo lang nila nga katawanan ang hotline since accessible kaayo siya sa cellphone (They make fun of the hotline since it is very accessible through the cellphone),” she said.

Pablo asked the public to only report what is necessary.

She added that Kean Gabriel should also not be used a means to retaliate, especially among those involved in family feuds.

“Panawagan namo naay mga calls to naay conflict ang families himuon ang Kean Gabriel og patagam, nga kung pwede respect sa family kay naay uban ay makabalos. Naa mi confirmed case, during sa among pag-rescue na-detain jud ang mama for one night, nag-celebrate daw tong nag-report (I ask the public, especially for families to not use the hotline to retaliate against one another. Use this to help other families. We had a confirmed case, when during our rescue the mother was detained for one night and we found out that the person who reported her celebrated because of this),” she said. KVC (CTTMO), he said.

Bustillo said that DPWH started the repair and implementation of mitigating measures to prevent further erosion.

Aside from the heavy rain that has softened the soil, the constant vibration of passing cargo trucks caused the soil to loosen some more.

Meanwhile, Bustillo said that evacuation is still ongoing for residents. A total of seven families were evacuated yesterday morning. Evacuees were temporarily sheltered in Los Amigos, Tugbok District while some took refuge with relatives.

They have also conducted force evacuation among residents dwelling near danger zone. However, there are still families who insist to stay but they were told of the danger of staying in the area.

So far no casualties were recorded by their office related to the landslide and flooding.

As of 3:30 p.m. Friday, the DPWH said "Soil stabilization/ slope protection operations at the landslide area along the Diversion Road is ongoing."

"Once completed, information will be immediately made available to the public. In the meantime, please continue to avoid the Diversion Road until further notice. The City Government of Davao and the Department of Public Works and Highways are working closely together to expedite clearing operations and ensure the safety of the public," the DPWH advisory read.

Earlier, the city government warned the public on the imminent danger of landslide in Shrine Hills and Diversion Road in Barangay Langub.

Emmanuel Jaldon, head of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center of Davao, said the ground cracks of the upper portion of the hill indicated movements.

In the weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Service Administration (Pag-asa), Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies apart from isolated rainshowers mostly in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.
