High-value targets also part of drug war

- By Juliet C. Revita

LOCAL authorities defended that they do not solely focus on street value targets but also high-value ones following a recent survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) where 60 percent agreed that only poor drug pushers were killed in the drug war.

Police Regional Office (PRO 11) spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna said that most of the drug personalities in the region belong to the lower classes of the society, thus, most of the arrested and killed drug users or pushers during buy bust operation came from the poor.

“Yon talagang mga people na involve sa illegal drugs especially yong transaction sa baba is yong andito sa low level ng ating society. Maybe that’s the reason mas marami yong number of casualties sa kanilang level,” she said.

She also said, “Sa nakikita natin sa data nag re-range ang surrenderers, natotokhang is more on nasa baba talaga.”

She, however, said that based on their record, they have also apprehended some big personalities in the illegal drug trade, showing that their operation involves drug pushers in all walks of life.

“But that doesn’t mean na hindi natin pinapansin yong nasa higher level in our society dahil sa record naman po natin meron narin tayong mga high value target. Meron naring mga na-imbestigahan na tokhang or na itala na nag commit dito sa illegal drugs na medyo nasa taas ng ating society,” she said.
