‘Kasambahay ’ wage review public hearing set

-

THE Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of Davao Region (RTWPB) enjoins the household employers and their Kasambahay to attend the Public Hearing on the review of the minimum wage of domestic workers.

This will be held on October 16, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Grand Men Seng Hotel, Pichon Street, Davao City.

The Regional Board has been in the process of reviewing motu proprio the current domestic workers’ minimum wage in the cities and provinces of Davao Region and as part of the Board’s review process, the public hearing is set in order to hear the voice of the household employers and the domestic workers themselves before any wage adjustment may be determined.

No petition for wage increase had been filed yet in behalf of the domestic workers in the region. In this public hearing, the Regional Board will hear the views, comments and positions of the stakeholders of the Batas Kasambahay.

This is the first public hearing to be conducted in Davao Region after the enactment of R.A. 10361 also known as the Batas Kasambahay in January 2013.

Before this public hearing was set, a series of consultations had been undertaken by the Board to generate insights from the different stakeholders and sectors involved in the employment of the kasambahay or household helpers.

Focus group discussions were conducted separately among selected household employers and domestic workers to gather initial information and insights on the people’s awareness of the Kasambahay Law and to take a quick view on the conditions of the domestic workers in the region.

A consultation meeting was also done together with concerned government agencies such as the Social Security System (SSS), Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), PhilHealth, Tesda, and DILG before the setting of the public hearing.

Copies of the Batas Kasambahay and its Implementing Rules and Regulations are available at the RTWPB 11 office at the 2nd Floor of R&T Yap Building, corner Bangoy-Monteverde Sts., Davao City, with the phone numbers 224-2027 and 222-4652.
