Inter-collegiate football slated
THE Mindanao Peace Games (MPG) will hold a men's under-22 intercollegiate football tournament on November 9 to 12 in General Santos City.
This was bared by MPG main convenor Noli Ayo in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at the NCCC Mall Food Cove function hall.
Ayo said the MPG has been identified as a women's organization that provides platforms for women athletes but in recent months, it has been holding several events involving men.
"Ang lagi lang naman naming ginagawa dito is really the beyond sports mentality na ini-insert namin sa kultura," Ayo said.
Three teams confirmed to join including Ramon Magsaysay College of Region 12, Ateneo de Davao University of Region 11 and Xavier University of Region 12.
"We are still waiting for the final confirmation of Region 13 who will either be represented by St. Joseph Institute of Technology or Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU)," he said.
Ayo added the games are just part of the fourday program as they will also have the leadership development where team captains will go through a series of activities while coaches will have a mentoring program and players will hold kids clinic. A popcorn and movie night will also be among the highlights.
Ayo added that they are also working with the Saranggani Peace Network, Incorporated headed by Fr. Angelo Buenavides.
The event is also supported by Mizuno.
