In­ter-col­le­giate foot­ball slated

THE Min­danao Peace Games (MPG) will hold a men's un­der-22 in­ter­col­le­giate foot­ball tour­na­ment on Novem­ber 9 to 12 in Gen­eral San­tos City.

This was bared by MPG main con­venor Noli Ayo in Thurs­day's Davao Sportswrit­ers As­so­ci­a­tion (DSA) Fo­rum held at the NCCC Mall Food Cove func­tion hall.

Ayo said the MPG has been iden­ti­fied as a women's or­ga­ni­za­tion that pro­vides plat­forms for women ath­letes but in re­cent months, it has been hold­ing sev­eral events in­volv­ing men.

"Ang lagi lang na­man nam­ing gi­na­gawa dito is re­ally the be­yond sports men­tal­ity na ini-in­sert namin sa kul­tura," Ayo said.

Three teams con­firmed to join in­clud­ing Ra­mon Magsaysay Col­lege of Re­gion 12, Ate­neo de Davao Uni­ver­sity of Re­gion 11 and Xavier Uni­ver­sity of Re­gion 12.

"We are still wait­ing for the fi­nal con­fir­ma­tion of Re­gion 13 who will ei­ther be rep­re­sented by St. Joseph In­sti­tute of Tech­nol­ogy or Fa­ther Saturnino Urios Uni­ver­sity (FSUU)," he said.

Ayo added the games are just part of the four­day pro­gram as they will also have the lead­er­ship de­vel­op­ment where team cap­tains will go through a se­ries of ac­tiv­i­ties while coaches will have a men­tor­ing pro­gram and play­ers will hold kids clinic. A pop­corn and movie night will also be among the high­lights.

Ayo added that they are also work­ing with the Sarang­gani Peace Net­work, In­cor­po­rated headed by Fr. An­gelo Bue­na­vides.

The event is also sup­ported by Mizuno.
