More auxiliary cops next year

THE hiring of additional volunteer auxiliary police officers, following the mass resignation of the police auxiliaries recruited last April, is set on the first quarter next year.

In a press conference, DCPO spokesperson Ma. Theresita Gaspan said Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio told their office that the hiring has to be done next year since it is already year-end in which there is no more budget allocated for additional police auxiliaries this year.

The monetary allowance of the police auxiliaries, Gaspan said, will also increase next year as promised by the Mayor.

“We do not know yet how much the increase is but we are sure that the amount is commendable and enough to compensate their efforts,” she said.

Gaspan added that there also might be a provision of additional security equipment but still has to be discussed further by Duterte-Carpio and DCPO director Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum within the remaining months of this year.

There were a total of 57 police auxiliaries who resigned last month.

Most of them, Gaspan said, resigned because they want to apply for other jobs.

“We cannot deny that the duties of our police auxiliaries are really difficult such as being a backup or assistant of traffic control officer, police officers, and other security jobs that can even risk their lives,” she said.
