FDA warns vs 9 pesticides

CONSUMERS are warned of household and urban pesticides that have not been registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In a public advisory released by FDA, they warned the public against use and purchase of 9 pesticides which includes Brother Brand Spray Mosquito Repellent, Wawang Frogking Insecticide Aerosol Jasmine Essence, Smart Steps Anti Mosquito Patches, Justice League Citronella & Neem Mosquito Repellant Bracelet (red, pink, and yellow), Aidplus Mosquito Bracelet, Moskil Pendant Insect Repellant (pink and blue).

Household and urban pesticide products are required to be duly registered with FDA by a licensed household/ urban pesticide and / or manufacturer before they can be made available in the local market.

The mentioned brands have been confirmed to have not undergone the registration process and have not been issued the proper marketing authorization by FDA. The official advisory mentioned that products that have not been evaluated by FDA may pose possible health hazards to the consumers and that the agency cannot guarantee their quality, efficacy, and safety.

“Such products are harmful, toxic and may pose imminent danger to human and animal health. The use of substandard and possibly adulterated household/urban pesticide products may result to adverse reactions including, but not limited to, skin irritation, itchiness, anaphylactic shock, respiratory disorders, endocrine complications, brain damage, and organ failure,” read the official statement.
