Cherrylume’s debut win

THE six-man member Cherrylume opened its campaign on a high note as they beat Spartans, 83-74, via overtime in the resumption of Basketball Avenue Open Basketball Tournament held at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center yesterday.

Ivan Teng Fo and Jong Tabanao paced Cherrylume with identical 24 points while Ian Teng Fo and Martin Maningo added 12 and 11 points, respective­ly.

Jarius Guingguing, who entered late in the third canto, sank a triple barely 20.5 seconds left in the game to force the five-minute extension.

Avery Lelis was limited with six points.

The Spartans, for their part, relied on Richard Tano who poured in 23 points including 10 in the payoff period.

Cherrylume mounted a formidable 57-41 lead at the start of the final frame but the Spartans, spearheade­d by Tano, fuelled a 22-6 run to steal the lead, 66-63, barely a minute remaining.

Guingguing then fired a trey to tie the game at 66-all.

In other games, Mahiwaga defeated Myrzia’s Koleksyon, 63-46, as Reb Martinez scored 15.

Myrzia’s Koleksyon, meanwhile, leaned on the services of Charles Angelo Tiraso who canned 17.

The revitalize­d Emar Human and Environmen­tal College (Ehec) Red Stags, meanwhile, came from behind to secure its first victory over Davao Group, 89-76.

Greggy Delica and Rico Bantillan combined for 38 points to pace the Red Stags.

Davao Group, who blew a 26-point lead, was led by Jed Rojas who sank 25 markers.

The event is sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and supported by The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Davao San EI Trading, Bearing Center and Machinery Inc., Mahugani Security Agency and the city government of Davao.
