Official 2017 Ngilngig Films, Announced
PASALIDAHAY, the organizer of this year’s Davao Ngilngig Film Festival announces the official Ngilngig films of 2017.
“Ngilngig” stories that focuses on town tales and superstitious beliefs in the Philippines will soon be shown on the big screen at SM Lanang Premier, Malagos Garden Resort and Davao Cinematheque on October 27-31.
The word "ngilngig" refers to something that is amazing or too beautiful but usually it defines something that elicits horror or ghastliness, something that alludes to the macabre.
Leading the Davao Ngilngig Film Festival on its first day at SM Lanang Premier is Lily, a Cebuano film by 2016 Cinema One Originals Best director Keith Deligero, which will be shown at 7PM on October 27. It is about a woman rumored to be a murderous monster in Cebu, but behind the myth is a mother seeking justice.
In the same cinema, a pre- miere screening of the official 2017 Ngilngig films will be at 6PM on October 28. Tickets for the premiere are sold at Php150. Officially selected by Pasalidahay, the Ngilngig Films of 2017 includes:

Regular showing of Ngilngig films will be at Davao Cinematheque at 5PM on October 29-30.
Davao Cinematheque will also host the special screening of KFC, a film from Vietnam by Lê Bình Giang, under the festival’s Midnight Feature program at 9PM on October 29. Exploring the cyclical effect of violence, this bizarre debut film's characters include a necrophilic doctor, a man wearing headphones and a bunch of cannibals. It had its premiere in Europe early this year labeled as a “body horror” genre film.
More Asian short films will take over the Davao Cinematheque's screen at 9PM on October 30.
Tickets for Davao Cinematheque screenings are sold at Php100 each, except for KFC which costs Php150.
Cinema One Originals' Salvage by Sherad Anthony Sanchez will be the closing film of this year's festival at 6PM on October 31 in SM Lanang Premier, ticket sold at Php150. Salvage is about a news team attacked by a group of soldiers while investigating rumors of aswang killings in a remote barrio, forcing them to run for their lives into the deeps of the forest, where more mystery and danger lay in wait.
Tickets are available at the Morning Light Art Gallery and Shop, Taichou Izakaya, Alleycat Tea House and Davao Cinematheque.
