380 labor cases filed in Region 11

-

THE National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) in Region 11 recorded 380 labor cases filed in their office from January to August this year.

Data obtained from the NLRC 11 showed that of the 380 labor cases, 106 are new cases filed in August while 274 are pending cases.

NLRC 11 executive labor arbiter Elmer Ben Pasion said so far, the office has already disposed 62 of the 380 cases and 318 have yet to be resolved.

Of the 62 cases disposed as of August, 37 were settled, 17 were decided and eight others had ordered. There were 86 laborers involved in the case.

The commission also noted that 74 percent of the 62 cases earlier disposed favored the laborers while the 26 percent were in favor of the management.

The NLRC also recorded 11 cases of labor complaints from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), 407 from Single-Entry Approach (Sena) and 62 registered unions.

Pasion said most of the complaints that the commission received are

illegal termination coupled with underpayment of salaries and non-payment in other labor standard services, among others.

The NLRC, a quasi-judicial agency attached to the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole), is mandated to arbitrate labor and management disputes involving both local and overseas workers through compulsory arbitration and alternative modes of dispute resolution. ICT
