GET basketball opens Nov 17

THE 2nd season of the Guillermo E. Torres (GET) Cup 2017 Inter-Public School Basketball Tournament Under 17 will open on November 17 at the University of Mindanao (UM) Gymnasium.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) city commissioner Oscar Salvador, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said this SBP-sanctioned event will feature 14 public school teams that will be provided with free uniforms and transportation allowances in each game courtesy of businessmen Willie Torres and Glenn Escandor.

The program was an initiative of Torres and Escandor in 2016 to provide public school teams a venue to develop their basketball talents.

Salvador said teams were already grouped into three brackets.

Defending champion Davao City National High School will be joined by Bernardo Carpio National High School, Jesus Soriano National High School, Cabantian National High School and Catalunan Pequeño National High School in bracket A.

First runner-up Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, however, is grouped with Dr. Santiago Dacudao Sr. National High School, Erico Nograles National High School, F. Bustamante National High School and Doña Carmen Denia National High School in bracket B while bracket C is composed of Sta. Ana National High School, Tugbok National High School, Gov. Duterte National High School and Pablo Lorenzo National High School.
