A crazy glimpse of wedding planning

- BY IVY C. TEJANO

GETTING married is such an overwhelming thing. It is a mix-up of emotion for the lovers, particularly for the bride-to-be. Good thing, wedding planners—also known as event organizers and coordinators—exists, to make the lovers’ dream wedding come true and help them start their journey as a couple.

Roland Tuazon, coowner and organizer of the Solamente Events, said it is a smart idea to have a wedding planner for a wedding event, because event planners can help the soon-to-becouple organize their big day. He added that lovers would need not worry a lot about what to do and where to go.

What the wedding planners actually do can vary greatly. Here’s the list of what they usually do for the groom and the bride to be less stressful before, during, and after its wedding day.

1. Normally, wedding planners start off by meeting with the couple to discuss and understand the event, not just the wedding itself, but also the details of their dream wedding, the number of the entourage, the invited guests, the venue, the rehearsals, and the overall budget.

2. The wedding planner will contact and meet with its contractors or suppliers for the event. The contractors include the apparels for the bride and groom and for their entourage, venue of the wedding ceremony, the reception area, the decoration, make-up, catering/cakes, lights and sounds, videos and photography, et al.

Rena June Baldoza– Opsimar, co-owner and organizer of the Solamente Events, said upon meeting the groom and his bride, they will then propose how they might be helpful for their wedding. She added that they present to the lovers’ with the wedding packages and a contract for the wedding services, depending on the needs and budget of the client.

“Once the contract was signed, the wedding planner in coordination with the groom and the bride will work on the things needed to prepare for the wedding. The planner will do the errands based on the needs and personal wants of the client, except on getting a marriage license and attending seminars, they should work on that,” Opsimar said.

3. The wedding planner, along with the contractors or suppliers for the event, will have its final meeting with the groom and the bride. This is for the planner and the suppliers to update the groom and the bride, and for the latter to check whether everything is all set or whether they have anything to adjust on the program.

4. Before the wedding day, the wedding planners make sure that all the details are ready to meet the deadline. They will also orient the groom and the bride, and the suppliers— particularly the photo and video, the cake and food suppliers, the make-up artists, and the lights and sounds on the schedule to avoid delays.

“Whether you are a well-organized person (the groom and the bride), of course, you want to make sure that wedding planner/s are not only on top of the things, but also helps you stay on top of the things on your wedding celebration,” Tuazon said.

5. During the wedding day, planners will review the contracts, coordinate the suppliers’ arrival and deliveries to the venues, and updates the wedding timeline. The wedding planners will also remind the clients’ obligation, appointments and budget constraints; and prevent unnecessary changes and shipping charges on the client.

6. Wedding planners will help the groom and the bride avoid chaos by solving other last-minute emergencies, setting up the ceremony and receptions spaces, making sure that the ceremony is on time and in the right place, coordinating the reception timeline, dealing with wedding crashers and unruly guests.

7. After the wedding celebration, the wedding planners ensure the groom and the bride will get their deposits back, if there is any; collect personal item, wedding gifts and make sure they get back to you safely, returning rentals and borrowed items. The wedding planners/coordinators will also have their own evaluation after.
