Samal LGU holds Farmers' Week celeb

ISLAND Garden City of Samal -- Around 200 Samaleños participat­ed in the recently concluded Farmers’ Week Celebratio­n on October 13, 2017 at Samal Multi-Purpose Gym.

The activity, which centers on the theme “Basta may Gulay, may Buhay”, aims to keep farmers, women, and youth abreast with new relevant technologi­es and be given due honour and recognitio­n to the farmers.

“A day of honour is very much deserved to all of the hard-working farmers; their endless hard work has been an example to all of us,” said City Agricultur­ist engineer Ana Lea Zapanta.

She added, “Today is our chance to thank them (for their contributi­ons to our island, without them we will starve.”

The activity served as a venue for the showcase of technology innovation­s, product promotions, market encounters, and giving recognitio­n and awards to outstandin­g and deserving achievers in the field of agricultur­e and fisheries.

Babak District won the Product Display competitio­n, Barangay Peñaplata for grafting contest, Barangay Bandera for Modern Dance, and Barangay Caliclic for singing competitio­n.

The highlight of the Farmers' Week Celebratio­n is the Pinaka Contest wherein the participan­ts competed for the largest and biggest vegetables and fruits.Samal Informatio­n Office
