-

HUNGRY Apes, Myrzia’s Koleksyon and Mystic Water Philippines (MWP) Warriors posted contrasting wins in the resumption of Cherrylume Basketball Avenue League held at the Gold Star Gym in Bo. Obrero over the weekend.

The Kevin Tan-mentored Hungry Apes drove past Cherrylume 94-91, via overtime to tie a 1-1 standing with the latter in a see-saw affair game.

The scores were tight all throughout the regulation before Hungry Apes pulled away behind the heroics of Lloyd “Topet” Lacida who sizzled 30 points including 10 points in the five-minute extension.

Pablo Dagpin and Jericho Bolo also joined the fray by scoring 21 and 17 points, respectively.

Cherrylume, however, leaned on the services of Jon Ryan Josol and Martin Maningo who combined for 45 points.

Myrzia’s Kolekyson had its first victory after beating the A.E.O. Black Leg Game Farm 76-69, in vigorous match that almost ended up in a brawl.

Bryan Remonsada pacified the heating situation and scored 27 points at the paint while teammate Dodong Abanes added 14.

Harly Garcia, who all started the physical contacts, led the charge for the Game Farm, scoring 18 points as teammate Joshua Arce had 17 baskets in a losing effort.

The Assumption College of Davao (ACD)bannered Warriors, meanwhile, survived past the much-improved Spartans 63-60, behind the buzzer beater three-pointer of ever-reliable BJ Sumugat, barely 2.0 seconds left.

Sumugat was limited with six-points the whole game but asserted his presence through that game winning shot that astounded the entire gym.

AJ Heje, however, kept his composure against the veteran-laden Spartans and sealed a 17-point output along with impressive rebounding skills.

Though limited with three points, Rene Yucamco also had his part for the win by setting screens to make way for AJ Royo, leading to open shots.

Royo had 11 points in an all-out-effort.

Spartans, who kept its phase against the speedy Warriors, relied on former-commercial player Ruiz who dropped 30 points.

The cagefest, bankrolled by Cherrylume, the Royal Mandaya Hotel, Davao San EI Trading, Mahugani Security Agency and Bearing Center and Machinery Inc., will resume on Sunday in still undetermined venue.
