‘Lumba Ta’ 17th horse show, competition this weekend

-

A DRILL team competition on horseback set to music. Eventing or obstacle course in a forested area. Horsewomen in action. Most talented horse competition. Oval race.

These are just some of the exciting games expected to thrill the crowd in Lumba ‘Ta, The 17th Davao Horse Show and Competition set on Saturday and Sunday at City Stables in Shanghai, Matina Aplaya.

Davao Horse Club president George Walter Misa said that teams coming from as far as Clark EcoZone in the North, down to the Visayas and from many parts of Mindanao, confirmed to participate in the horse sport spectacular that is on its 17th season, a fitting climax to the 20th year celebration of the DHC this year.

Misa, in a statement, said, "With teams coming from different parts of the country, the event has turned truly national and has surely strengthened Davao City’s position, he continues, as the sports tourism capital of the Philippines."

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez have been invited as special guests to grace the opening program, scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

A parade of horses showcasing various teams in their respective uniforms and showing off different horse breeds and colors, promises an opening ceremony unlike any other, says the Davao horseman. Competition among the horse teams is tight.

He added that horsemen from Malaybalay, Impasugong and Northern Bukidnon are always a force to contend with. But Davao and Cagayan de Oro are no pushovers. Cebu teams are not far behind. Then there are the up and coming riders from Agusan del Sur and Davao del Sur coming into the fray. Not to forget the presence of the equestrian-trained team from Clark’s El Kabayo Stables. At the end of the day, however, it all boils down to the breaks of the game over one’s riding skills and his/her horse’s training. That’s what makes games on horseback so intense and exciting.

Admission is free to the public.

Lumba ‘Ta, The 17th Davao Horse Show & Competition is being organized by DHC under the auspices of the Philippine Horsemen’s Federation in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission, Tourism Promotion Board, Department of Tourism Region 11, Davao City Sports Development Division and Davao City Tourism Operations Office.
