SOS football ends on a high note

THE 11th SOS Football Festival-themed “All Together: Advocating Children’s Welfare and Developmen­t through Football” ended on a high note with over 50 teams gathered at the Davao Crocodile Park Football Field recently.

SOS CV Davao fund developmen­t coordinato­r Roxie Paguyan, in an email furnishied to Sun.Star Davao, said teams from Davao City, Maco, Davao Oriental, Agusan Del Sur, Tagum City and Digos City participat­ed in the event that aims to continue to realize every child's potential and promote unity among various organizati­ons in the community.

"Mostly from Mindanao lang yung mga participan­ts kasi yung mga teams na nag-confirm from Visayas di po nakaabot sa event," Paguyan said.

Paguyan said SOS Children’s Village Davao Board of Trustee Corporate Secretary attorney Aileen Lizada welcomed the teams while Maharlika Sports Developmen­t Institute founder Edgar Te bared the grassroots developmen­t through longterm partnershi­p.

"Along with Ms. Nimfa Montealto, Assistant Village Director, they graced the ceremonial kick-off before starting the games. Boys under 12, Boys under 10, and Mixed under 8 battled on the first day," Paguyan said.

Meanwhile, the Crocs FC clinched the boys under-12 title over Medvil FC and Toril Crossers A.

Crocs’ Matt Lim was hailed most valuable player (MVP).

In the boys under 10, Miggy Caangay, who romped away with the MVP award, led the Hyenas FC past Maco A to secure the crown.

Amigos FC, for its part, subdued South Shield FC to annex the mixed undereight category.

Amigos’ Jaime Togonon won the MVP award.

The Hagonoy Strikers also shared the limelight by winning the boys under 14 title over Toril Crossers in the boys under 14 while Sakya FC emerged champion after beating Lasang FC.

In the boys under 17, Lasang FC overcame Holy Cross FC for the championsh­ip title.

Hagonoy Strikers’ Francy Dela Peña, Sakya’s Maija Calizo, and Lasang FC’s Adonis Pescaderia shared MVP honors in different categories of the tournament backed by NCCC Mall, Sky Cable, Grand Men Seng, Dole Philippine­s, Amtrac, Ijet Forwarder, Damosa Land, Jenson Land, Instatech, and 911.

The event is in partnershi­p with Maharlika Sports Developmen­t Institute, Davao Crocodile Park, Smart Telecom, Motortrade, Rotary Club, Davao City Mayor’s Office and Nature’s Spring.
