Surgical caravan in Samal

ISLAND Garden City of Samal — The Department of Health 11 ( DOH 11), in coordinati­on with the City Health Office ( CHO) of the local government unit ( LGU) of Samal Island, held their 2nd Surgical Caravan in Davao del Norte at the Davao del Norte Hospital- Samal Zone in Peñaplata, Samal District last October 23 to 27, 2017.

The activity aims to give a free surgical interventi­ona to identified beneficiar­ies, most of which are those who are less fortunate.

The event centered on the theme, “ToDOHAlaga, May TSekAP na, May Libreng Operasyon Pa, Saan mang Sulok Kalusugan Maabot”.

“As of October 25 ( Wednesday), there are 188 beneficiar­ies’ who have undergone major and minor operations. The beneficiar­ies, who are in need of need of surgical procedures, mostly have no resources and far from facilities," said Jinky Espino, DOH 11 Senior Health Program Officer and Focal Person in CheckUp of Surgical Caravan.

“They did not have to pay anything since we want them to feel the free services from the government through the Department of Health- Central Office,” she added. The DOH- Central Office allotted budget for this Surgical Caravan for the medication­s and operations of the target beneficiar­ies.

“We hope to have another operation in other places,” Espino added.

The event is spearheade­d by DOH 11 in partnershi­p with visiting hospitals, Davao del Norte Hospital- Samal Zone, and the provincial government of Davao del Norte.
