City ready to be lit up for Xmas

-

A 40-foot Christmas tree in Rizal Park and People’s Park laden with lights akin to Ayala Triangle in Manila are the things that Dabawenyos will look forward to this holiday season.

Davao City Administrator Zulieka Lopez in an interview yesterday said two light bulb companies signified their intention to partner with the city for the separate projects.

“We are partnering with the OMNI group, for the giant Christmas tree, its 40-foot at Rizal Park,” she said.

Philips, the light bulb company, has offered to light up People’s Park.

“Ang scale niya is medyo downgraded from the Ayala Triangle-kind, pero walang music kasi hindi naman sila sa music, pero parang ganoon siya, yung may ilaw ang trees tapos iba-iba, nagpresent na sila kay maam, okay na kay Mayor tapos ngayon magpre-present sila sa Davao Parks Board,” Lopez said.

“December 1 siya magopen, pero right now hinihintay na lang ang stocks but the team is ready to execute,” she added.

She added that on that day, Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio will officially light up everything, that include all the parks and all the government institutions.

Lopez added that Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio already approved the design for the city wide decorations rendered and proposed by the City Architect in coordination with Museo Dabawenyo.

“It will go through all the parks, all the overpasses, the flyovers and then all the institutions of the local government that involves Sanggunian and the City Hall, and our district halls,” she said.

For a unified theme for decorations this year, the city has already provided the private sector and national government agencies the template of the design whether it is parol or the official logo.

She said that the city will buy parols from the inmates of city jail, from cooperatives and women groups from Davao City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO).

Lopez said that preparations for the series of Pasko Fiesta events have begun after the signing of the Executive Order creating Pasko Fiesta 2017 Execom, which was released before Undas.

She said that the Pasko Fiesta budget is now being finalized and they are now eyeing to have a slightly increased budget compared to 10 million budget last year.

“The Pasko Fiesta is purely, really, a local government initiative unlike the Kadayawan in which we partnered with the private sector. But there are some activities of the Pasko Fiesta that were driven by the private sector like the Torotot Festival, some of the organizers will have to make the bid for the Ka’an Davao, the street food area, and we will also have light-up-your-establishment contest,” she said.
