- By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan

AS early as November 6, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio urged everyone to come here when the city hosts the 2019 Palarong Pambansa.

The mayor made her invitation via the Davao City government official page.

"I am inviting everyone to visit Davao City as we hos the 2019 Palarong Pambansa!," she said in her statement.

Duterte-Carpio continued, "Come and watch the best student athletes from all over the country compete across diverse sporting disciplines in the largest city in the country - a sprawling 244,000-hectare paradise that brings the best of nature's bounties with the amenities of modern living."

She added that Dabawenyos look forward to see everyone here.

The Palaro Board, however, has yet to announce the 2019 Palaro hosting bid winner.

When asked about the mayor's confidence to invite the public for the 2019 Palaro, Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Michael Denton "Mikey" Aportadera said, "Hehehe.. in principle murag atua na (It's ours in principle)."

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), being a member of the Palaro Board, has one vote.

PSC chairman William "Butch" Ramirez earlier said he is certain Davao City will win the Palaro 2019 hosting bid.

The construction of the Davao City-UP Sports Complex shifts to high gear in preparation for the Palaro hosting. But it will be put to a test when the city hosts the Davao Region Athletics Association (Dcaa) Meet 2018.
