Kaayo AT MARCO POLO DAVAO
Finally, Mindanao designs that work. The designers and the brand are highly commendable. The designer picks up bits and pieces—inspirations—from local tribes and infuses it into today’s fabrics. The result: modern, one-of-a-kind clothes that are uniquely Mindanaoan, which are globally competitive.
Mindanao para sa Mindanao.
The modern Mindanao fashion brand was founded by Dabawenyas, Baby Montemayor and daughter Marga Nograles, who collaborated with local designers and sewers, and the T’Boli and BagoboTagabawa tribeswomen.
“Kaayo is a curated collection of different stories and livelihoods centered on the southernmost part of Philippines, Mindanao. The brand marries tradition and trends to come up with bespoke pieces that are truly Mindanao, bringing honor to the tribes and Philippine culture. Through the brand, purposeful creativity of the modern Filipino enterpreneur who exhibits a deep respect for customs, tradition & trends and the harmonious juxtaposition of old and modern have become a beautiful reality,” shared the founders.
Kaayo in Davao
After the brand’s trade and trunk shows in Manila, Kaayo brought its designs where it was born. A trunk show was held recently at the Marco Polo Davao. Over cocktails, the unique pieces were put on display for local women to browse and bag. A few more locals are proud owners of Mindanao-born fashion pieces.
On the runway, the many ways of wearing Kaayo was presented. Its versatility takes it from day to evening.
Wonderful show. Congratulations to the Kaayo family. May your tribe increase!
