Alorica bags volley titles

-

THE Alorica squad lived up to expectations as their men's and women's teams clinched titles in the Davao Inter-BPO League (DIBL) Volleyball Tournament at Davao Doctors College (DDC) Gymnasium recently.

Alorica male spikers survived past Offsourcing, 25-15, 15-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-13 in the championship game while Alorica volleybelles swept Offsourcing, 25-21, 25-16, 25-16, in the women's finals.

"Words cannot express on how sweet this victory is," Alorica spiker Sherwin Maganda said.

He said that the 9-0 win-loss card in the eliminations somehow added pressure on them.

"It was ours to lose. Expectations were high and many thought it will be a walk in the park since we've beaten them before but we know OS will adjust and they are as hungry to win the championship as well," Maganda said, also lauding Offsourcing for giving them a tough battle.

Alorica women's volleyball team captain Quielle Hernandez, in a separate interview, said: "It was a sweet victory for the women's team to be able to win the championship game. All Aloricans are expecting us to bring home the crown but you know, as what they say, bilog ang bola."

She also said that winning was never easy as they had to work things out to jell as a team.

"We managed to grow and strengthen the bond between our colleagues and do what we love, to play volleyball," she added.

The men's team was composed of team captain Jay Tuazon, Maganda, Jalween Panisales, RJ Desierto, Anjo Carriedo, Migz Escovilla, AJ Gutang, Kenneth Miranda, Kent Cañete, Ronnie Demoral, Kenn Bryll Gonzales, Shane Tero, Martial Balaga, Gee Bayla, Nick Bonares, Angel Ingutan, Marvin Bacus, Dennis Estay, JP Pamat and Jay Josol while the women's team was also bannered by Feruz Agang, Christine Munion, Maricris Apale, Andrea Abanes, Evelyn Escol, Lalaine Corsiga, Maria Tano, Yvonne Luis Concon, Ritchell Galacio and Claire Villa Abrille.

Sutherland women's team demolished Convergys, 25-8, 2512, 25-14, to place third in the women's division even as VXI Global finished third by turning back Sutherland, 25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 15-12, in men's event of the volleyfest presented by the Davao Brotherhood Sports in coordination with Balibolista de Dabaw.
