TANCONTIAN siblings, Sydney and Chino, of Davao City bagged gold medals for the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers at the close of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (Uaap) Season 80 judo competition that closed Sunday at the De La Salle University (DLSU) Zobel.

Defending champion Sydney retained her crown in the women's senior division as she subdued an opponent from Far Eastern Philippines (FEU) in the finals to help the UST Tigers claim a three-peat.

Chino, meanwhile, had a memorable Uaap debut after winning the men's junior division over his teammate Aaron Emmanuel Reyes via ippon to also romp away with the most valuable player (MVP) award.

"Ginandahan ko po talaga yung game ko kasi po hindi ko gusto mangyari yung nangyari sa akin nung mga Batang Pinoy games ko na naudlot po yung mga gold medals," the 16-year old Tancontian said.

He also shared that winning gold in the prestigious Uaap is fulfilling.

"Iba po talaga kapag nakapagpanalo ng gold tapos nagkaroon pa po ako ng bonus na MVP. Masaya po ako sobra sa unang Uaap ko," Chino added.
