Pasko Fiesta activities bared

THE Office of the Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) on Tuesday released the list of the Pasko Fiesta sa Dabaw official activities.

CTOO officer-incharge Generose Tecson, last Tuesday posted the 21 official events to be participat­ed by people from different walks during the Christmas season dubbed by the city government as "Pasko Fiesta".

December 1 marks the start of the Pasko Fiesta carnival a month long amusement rides and freebies for Dabawenyos. In the evening the Danag Davao or the Official Pasko Fiesta Opening and lighting ceremonies will be held in front of the city

hall, to be led by Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio.

As of Tuesday this week, the installati­on of the different rides for the Pasko Fiesta Carnival has started.

Meanwhile, the first day of December also marked the opening of several contests, to be participat­ed by different sectors.

These includes Parol sa Barangay, a parol display contests in barangays at Marfori Botanical Garden; Kahayag sa Davao a light up competitio­n of establishm­ents; Pasko Fiesta Davao, variety shows in 11 barangays; Pasko Pahalipay sa Davao, Santa Claus in Magsaysay Park and People's Park with giveaways; and Pasko Hulagway, a photo contest.

Other month long activities include Pasko Fiesta para sa mga Lumad, which will run from December 7 to 20; Kan-anan sa Tribo, a food market by the 11 tribes in Magsaysay Park and will start on December 15 to 30; and Pasko Kumbira sa City Hall, Christmas fun for City Hall employees at Rizal Park on December 15.

Other activities include 7th Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgende­r (LGBT) Year-end Party for the LGBT community at Azuela Cove, Lanang on December 17; Siyam ka Kaadlawon (Simbang Gabi), early morning masses and native kakanin at San Pedro Cathedral on December 16 to 24.

December 16 also marks the start of Panayegon sa Davao, Christmas carols by various other groups in City Hall Drive, and also the Kaandabaw: Christmas food street in Palma Gil.

There will also be a Lamdag Parada, a parade of lighted Christmas lanterns plus marching band competitio­n at Centeral Business District on December 22.

On the December 23, there will also be Koro sa Pasko, which is a chorale competitio­n, and Pasko Daba-Daba, a concent by various artists.

On the 25th there will be Christmas Mass or Misa Dabawenyo and at 6 pm the same day, there will be Yugyugan sa Pasko Fiesta, Christmas Day Celebraton, and Street Party.

A battle of the bands event will also be conducted on December 26, dubbed as Tugtugan sa Pasko and finally on December 31 there will be a Torotot Festival at Rizal Park.

Dabawenyos who attended different activities or contests, are expected to win many prizes this year, this is after Davao City mayor Sara Z. Duerte has announced that the city will allot a total of P17 million for the Pasko Fiesta and huge part of it goes to prizes for the different events. “If there is allegation na they are protecting former barangay captain Maalat so maglabas sila ng evidence because we do not tolerate our personnel especially those involve in irregulari­ty misconduct and abuse of rights so kung mapapatuna­yan ready naman kami,” she said.

Gaspan said the accused are still on duty since there has been no charges filed against them and as investigat­ion is still ongoing.

The policemen have already been asked to give their side on the allegation, she said.

Last Sunday, November 26, agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcemen­t Agency (PDEA 11) arrested Arnold Maalat, a former barangay chairman and an incumbent barangay councilor in an antiillega­l drug operation at Purok Two, Barangay Communal, Buhangin District, Davao City.

Authoritie­s recovered sachets of suspected illegal drugs, drug parapherna­lia, undetermin­ed caliber of firearms and explosive.

Maalat is considered as a highvalue target by authoritie­s. JCR
