Mauled worker gets protection
As aggressor posts bail, gets out
THE man seen in a video mauling a female worker, which has since gone viral on social media, was temporarily released on Tuesday, November 29 after he was able to pay a bail, prompting authorities to give protection and facilitate services for the victim against possible threats.
Speaking before the AFP-PNP press forum at the Royal Mandaya Hotel yesterday, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Ma. Teresita Gaspan said the suspect identified as Ryan Rebucas Ma posted bail on Tuesday however, she said the suspect will be rearrested once the warrant of arrest will be released by the court.
“He availed the right to bail. He was granted by the judge so it is not within the law enforcement anymore nasa sa justice system na,” Gaspan said.
The case, she added, will depend on the appreciation of the fiscal if it will be lifted to serious physical injury.
Gaspan said the Integrated Gender And Development Division (IGDD), Davao City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) and the Wom-
en and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) facilitated the privilege of the local government for the victim.
“Well accorded ang biktima actually at this point in time, the CSSDO has the custody and supervision of the victim considering na there might be some threats sa kanyang life [since] ang suspect is the driver sa employer sa isang oil company,” she added.
Ma was arrested by the police and a case of physical injuries was already filed against him. The police report from Sasa Police Station said that the incident happened on November 25 at 2:30 p.m. where the complainant identified as Jessa Mae Cañete, 20, and a factory worker at Volga Oil Company and a resident of Purok 25 Molupya, Malagamot in Panacan reported the incident to their office and sought for police assistance the suspect.
Cañete sustained wounds in different parts of her body after she was beaten by the suspect, who interrupted her colleagues’ conversation, while they were busy sorting out items in boxes. The suspect then “stated lewd, profane, and insulting words to the complainant which resulted to a heated argument between the two.
The close-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which was uploaded by Cañete on Sunday garnered around five million views with more than 35,000 reactions and over 100,000 shares on Facebook as of yesterday.
Gaspan also clarified that the case is not considered as violence against women considering that the involved personalities has no intimate relationship and will only fall on physical injury. JCR
