Addu monthly chess tourney a success

THE 3rd Year Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Monthly Chess Tournament ended on a high note with a total of 107 participan­ts.

The chessfest, presented by the Addu athletics that was facilitate­d by tournament director Alexander Clavite, chief arbiter Ariel Aton and arbiter James Bulicatun, took place last November 25 at the GS AVR 4 of Addu, Matina Campus.

According to Addu athletics director Noli Ayo, participan­ts were mostly from the Davao Region and some were from Gov. Generoso, Davao Oriental.

"Initiative­s like monthly tournament­s are things schools of Davao can do also to contribute significan­tly to more opportunit­ies for young student athletes to hone and shine in their field of sports," said Ayo as they eye another monthly chess tournament set on December 16 in the same venue.

Meantime, Gian Luis Navalta of Addu won the elementary boys division title by outclassin­g Ryan Gabriel Rasay and Lance Bangayo, who placed second and third, respective­ly.

Michaela Sumaylo, for her part, ruled the distaff side after prevailing over Irish Mae Vitor and Liene Faith Salajudin.

Jerson Pantalito, on the other hand, outshined Kurt John Placencia and Joshua Noel Tiagan to secure the title in High School mixed category.

Seasoned wood pusher Irish Yngayo was named the top female of the category. ABM
