Why I returned to Mövenpick Hotel Bangkok

-

Sawadee krub. Palms together, a slight bow and a smile, the doormen greeted me in the traditional Thai way of welcome as I entered the chic, minimalist lobby in black and white. The pop of red and wood around the reception and waterfall feature viewed from large picture window add to the allure of the interior.

It’s good to be back at the familiar edifice along Soi 15 of the Big Mango’s bustling Sukhumvit stretch, an area with a concentration of what Bangkok offers best — energy, delight and excitement.

This sojourn at the Mövenpick Hotel would be my second, which fell exactly on the same dates as the first visit three years ago. It was the planned two-day escape when only nest and eat were listed on the itinerary.

On the two occasions, I was whisked to the Executive Lounge on the 6th floor for private check-in before I was shown to my spacious room facing the East. The view of the city at dawn is picturesque and always a terrific scene to wake-up to.

And you would ask how can one rest in Sukhumvit when the neighborhood is an entertainment hub packed with clubs, posh shopping malls and an array of food options ranging from street food to fine dining?

Mövenpick Hotel’s address can offer the peace and quiet its guest can escape to after an entire day around town or a night of revelry. Certainly, this is one of the hotel’s charms.

Why this hotel when there are other hotels in the vicinity that may be able to offer the same amenities as Mövenpick’s stylish modern rooms, 24/7 complimentary Tuk Tuk shuttle rides to and from the Asok BTS Skytrain Station and MTR Subway by Terminal 21 shopping mall, which can take you to Bangkok’s attractions, in-house dining and entertainment choice.

Zaki Baz, Mövenpick Hotel’s general manager, shares, “The hotel has a resort atmosphere which makes it different from other city hotels in Bangkok, furthermore, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is known for Swiss hospitality and its food and beverage background, which is very popular with guests, especially from the Middle East and Europe where the brand is very well known. Our brand signatures such as the healthy shots at breakfast and our famous Chocolate Hour in the afternoon also help us stand apart from the competition as they are special complimentary touches for our guests to enjoy.”

Details like the two-level waterfall that emits a sound that relaxes and a calming all green rooftop deck set against the beautiful panorama of Bangkok give the hotel that resort vibe.

Now for the treats, mine didn't stop with the healthy shots to start the day and chocolate treats in the afternoon. Access to the Executive Lounge allowed me to have breakfast in the morning and evening cocktails in a quiet space.

But what made the staycation truly memorable? The Mövenpick ice cream. I can't ask for a better birthday indulgence than the creamy to-die-for scoops.

Mövenpick Hotel Sukhumvit 15 Bangkok is at Sukhumvit Soi 15, Sukhumvit Road, Klong Toei Nuea, Wattana, Bangkok, Thailand.
