The fit life

- By Ivy C. Tejano

TO be a health and wellness instructor was not something he dreamed of, he didn't even imagine himself working out in a fitness center. Except that Miguel Rosey

Jabonete Plasabas was too lanky and thin as a teen, he became the butt of jokes and ridule.

Now 23, Plasabas said that during his adolescent years, he was called different names like "sungkit" (pole), "payat" (thin), and some even describing him as isa na lang ka ubo mapalid na (he can easily be blown away with just a cough).

He first tried drinking beer with friends, as it's supposed to make people fat. He didn't.

“I even had too much food intake back then. It was quite hilarious, because I honestly got the wrong notion on how to improve myself, until I saw my friend whose body was far different when we were in high school,” Plasabas said.

Without hesitation, Plasabas approached his friend and solicited recommendations on how to improve his body. After his work at a national high school, he would pop into a fitness center and started a healthy diet. He was inspired more when he saw improvement after several months. From just working out, he is now a fitness instructor.

Now he has set his sights on joining a bodybuilding competition, at least once.

“Indeed, no pain no gain. My efforts have finally paid off. But that does not mean I should stop. In fact, being a health and wellness instructor is a fulfilling career. You will not succeed unless you strive to improve every day,” he said.

For Plasabas, working-out and applying as instructor in a fitness center are among the best decisions he made in his life. He is reaping the benefits not only for himself but for the people he coaches.

He said fitness instructors play a vital role in helping their clients/students acquire and maintain a healthy lifestyle. But the clients/students should also do their part to achieve their goals.

Born on January 31, 1994 in Davao City to Romeo Plasabas and Joyce Regal Jabonete, the young Plasabas studied an Information Technology (IT) Course from the STI College in 2013. But he had his first job as a photographer in 2011. He took on other jobs while still a student.

He was hired as a fitness instructor at Smashville Fitness Center in 2013. He left the Smashville just this year and became a health and wellness instructor at Herbalife.

Despite the heavy responsibilities on his shoulders as a fitness instructor, Plasabas never thought of quitting. He still has time for himself and his loved ones'. He said what he has attained now is truly a blessing from the creator and is the best achievement he has in life so far.
