Christmas open chessfest set
THE Davao Professional Chess Club Association Inc. (DPCCAI) will hold its Christmas Open Chess Tournament slated on December 23 to 24 at the Chess Club, Osmeña Park, Davao City.
National Arbiter (NA) Ely Acas, in yesterday’s edition of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center Family Room, said engineer Allan Diez is sponsor of the two-day, six-round Swiss System format tournament.
“Apart from celebrating Christmas, the purpose of this event is to add more activity for our chessers in Davao City and let the youth play against rated/veteran players,” Acas said, adding that the event is open to all interested players of all ages.
The registration will start at 9 a.m. on December 23.
Registration fees are pegged at P150 (open) and P100 (kiddies under 14).
The first four rounds will be played on the first day while the remaining rounds will be held on Christmas Eve.
The champion will receive P2,000 while the next two placers will take home P1,000, P500. The fourth and fifth finishers will claim P300 each.
Special awards will also be given to the top 1900, first top under 14 and second top under 14.

Meanwhile, the Acas Palero Moulic (APM), a weekly chess tournament facilitated by Acas and his colleagues NA Alfred Moulic and FNA Jojo Palero, will resume in 2018.
Acas also said that they plan to hold the event in different barangays.
