Dela Rosa submits list of erring cops to Duterte

-

MANILA - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald Dela Rosa yesterday said he has submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte a list of police officers who have been implicated in illegal activities.

Included in the list are police officials with ranks as high as senior superintendent and as low as Police Officer 1.

He, however, refused to name the said police officials.

He expressed dismay over the continuous involvement of some of his men in illegal activities despite their efforts to cleanse ranks.

"Frustrating talaga kasi bakit sila mag-iinsist na gumawa ng ganun marami nang nahuli at nakulong (It's frustrating that they insist on committing illegal acts despite the fact that a lot have been caught and jailed),” Dela Rosa said.

“Ibig sabihin they’re just risking their life, their future, their career and the future of their family just because of the comfort na naibigay ng ilegal na droga (provided by the illegal drugs trade). I don’t see the logic,” he added.

Dela Rosa said the PNP leadership may or may not affect the attitude of the cops but, at the end of the day, they are still the ones who decide for themselves.

“Kahit sino namang chief PNP kung tarantado, tarantado talaga sila (It doesn't matter who the PNP chief is),” he said.

In his speech during the 39th birthday celebration of Senator Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao, Duterte urged several police officials including three superintendents to leave the agency.

“I am starting the purging at huwag kayong ma-insulto kung hindi ka naman tinatamaan, huwag kang magalit kasi ako galit na sa dati,” he said. (SunStar Philippines)
