Total firecracker ban stays, DCPO reminds
DAVAO City has a standing ordinance on the total ban of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices, thus, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reminded the public to refrain from using such during holiday season as well as for those who are planning to transport it and pass through the city.
DCPO spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan said yesterday during the AFP-PNP Press Corps forum at the Royal Mandaya Hotel that the Police Community Relations (PCR) had already began their information drive regarding the ordinance of the city on the prohibition of firecrackers under the City Ordinance No. 060-02 of 2002.
The law strictly prohibits the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession, or use of firecrackers or pyrotechnic devices and other similar devices and explosives within the territorial jurisdiction of the city.
“The DCPO has already started its aggressive campaign against firecrackers since it is totally banned here and we are consistent for years having zero incidents,” Gaspan said.
She added DCPO director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum has already reminded all police stations in the city to conduct stricter monitoring and enforcement of the ordinance.
“Anyone who is found in possession shall be meted with appropriate sanction,” she said.
As of yesterday, they have not recorded any apprehension or incident related to firecrackers.
The transportation meanwhile has no exemption as it is covered under the city ordinance.
Even pyrotechnic materials that are just passing through Davao City on the way to other destinations will be confiscated, its owners charged.
“They will be blocked by the checkpoints south and northbound since we have ordinance that it is prohibited,” she said.
