Cops warned vs indiscrimi­nate firing of guns

DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) director Police Senior Superinten­dent Alexander Tagum issued a stern warning to cops against firing their guns indiscrimi­nately lest be charged criminally and administra­tively.

Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan said during yesterday’s press briefing that erring cops who will be proven to have recklessly used their firearms in welcoming the yearly celebratio­n will be facing legal sanctions or dismissal from service considerin­g the danger it might cause such as injury or worse fatality for those who will hit the stray bullet.

“Our city director actually instructed all station commander any police officer who is found who have been involved in indiscrimi­nate firing shall be dealt with both administra­tive and criminal liabilitie­s,” Gaspan said.

“Binigyan ng malaking focus ng ating city director any police officer na magpapaput­ok during Christmas and New Year. He is very sincere na iimplement ang sa both sanction civil and criminal liabilitie­s,” she added.

House Bill 5750, which amended Article 254 of the Revised Penal Code and Republic Act No. 10591, imposes a prison term of 12 years for acts that endanger human life, which includes the offense of indiscrimi­nate discharge or firing of guns. JCR (For full story visit www.sunstar.com.ph/ davao/
