Bringing out the best in someone

- By Reuel John F. Lumawag

YOU know it is something you love as you would always find and seek ways to develop and practice it.

Paulyn A. Dy, 24, is a government worker on her regular days but on days when she is not working, she spends time doing what she loves, making her clients look good as a makeup artist.

A graduate of bachelor of science in Accounting Technology at the Ateneo de Davao University, Paulyn started her passion to do make up in 2012 while still a

student.

"I had a lot of time then. Every time I had a break time, I go meet clients and my rate then was still very affordable," said Paulyn, who is a self taught makeup artist.

She said one of her first clients then was a friend who was going to have her debut.

"I did her makeup and there was a famous photographer who took her photo. By the time the photos were published, I also started receiving inquiries," said Paulyn, adding back then that she has no specific rate for projects yer.

Her big break came when a local photographer collaborated with her for a project.

"After his work came out, I started to receive more inquiries from potential clients," Paulyn said.

She said this motivated her to develop her skills through the help of the world wide web.

"I started watching Youtube videos. I really did not have formal training. Basically, all you need to learn can already be found on Youtube," Paulyn said.

As she continued to develop her skill and passion as a makeup artist, clients also started to come in.

Paulyn said the boom for pre-debut photoshoots and other new trends in weddings, debuts, and other events, also helped gave her new opportunities.

When in terms of doing makeup, she describes her style as "natural look."

"It is still you but the version 2.0 of you," Paulyn said.

She also does make-up for those who are into cosplay or for those who have a special event like halloween.

Paulyn said throughout the course of her development and growth as a makeup artist, she also grew to love it more.

"I love the feeling that I am able to make someone look good," she said, adding that it gives her joy when she sees her clients being complimented on how beautiful they are.

Paulyn said she has also conducted makeup seminars for private companies and government agencies in recent years.

At present, she is only a part time makeup artist, doing it only on days when she is free. However, in the future, once she is already stable, she hopes to do this full time.
