Sara: I am not part of investigation team

- By Jennie P. Arado

“I AM not part of the investigation team.”

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio countered to those who had been suggesting that she should inhibit herself from the investigation of the NCCC Mall fire incident that happened last December 23 as she has a commitment with Choice Mart, a company under NCCC supermarket.

As per the statement released by the mayor yesterday December 28, her impartiality with the NCCC fire incident has been questioned because of an endorsement contract.

“I have never presented myself to investigate the mall fire and under normal circumstances, a city mayor does not sign fire investigation reports of the BFP. Also, I do not endorse NCCC mall, but

mall, but I have a commitment with Choice Mart, which is another company of NCCC supermarket,” the mayor said.

She also said the way her staff and the City Social Services Development Office (CSSDO) handled everything starting the evening of December 23 until today had prevented chaos and hysteria among the victims and other Dabawenyos.

Duterte-Carpio called this as something other people would do just to find loopholes with her and to be able to say she is doing something wrong.

“Nobody can question how I did my work as Mayor in helping the family of the victims, the BFP, the NCCC, and SSI officials,” she said.

Currently, the investigation of the incident had been tasked to the Inter Agency Task Force headed by the Department of Interior and Local Government. The task force group also includes BFP, Department of Justice, National Bureau of Investigation, and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. JPA
