Samal fisherfolks receive fishing gear, boats
ISLAND Garden City of Samal -– The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 11 (BFAR 11), through the City Agriculture Office, turned over municipal fishing vessels and fishing gears worth P2.5 million to more than 250 fisherfolks beneficiaries of Samal Island on December 27, 2017 at the Samal Gym, Peñaplata, Samal District.
Fishing paraphernalia turned over to the beneficiaries included 20 units of F/B Pagbabago fiber glass motorized fishing boat; 20 units F/B Pagbabago wooden hull non-motorized fishing boat; 45 units life vest; and assorted fishing gears -- pasol-pangundak, pasolpamariles, pasol-pamalagdas, pukot-panambaka, and gamit-pangbobo. The fishing boats and gears are prohibited to be rented out and be sold.
The beneficiaries were endorsed by the Congressional Office to BFAR 11 through the Davao del Norte Provincial Fishery Office and was validated by the Samal City Agriculture Office.
“I ask our beneficiaries to take good care of what the government has given to you and always understand each other," said BFAR Davao del Norte Provincial Fishery Officer (PFO) Lourdes Abapo.
Abapo also reminded the boat beneficiaries to register their respective vessels at the local government of Samal through the City Agriculture Office to become part of the BFAR Boat-Registration (Boat-R) data-base.
