Not any less of a woman

-

THIS year has seen a lot of celebrations including several personalities who finally tied the knot.

No matter how happy their marriages are doing, other people still have something to say, especially to those who have long been together but has no child/children yet to raise.

Shortly after Anne Curtis married Erwan Heusaff, she was asked when they plan to have a child and her response, “not very soon,” earned reactions that are not so good to hear. Among them, “what a shame! pagsisisihan mo yan pagtanda mo”. Apparently, a family picture with no child in it is not considered a family by some.

Recently Kim Jones, wife of Jericho Rosales, was also criticized. A netizen replied to a post of Rosales in a photo with Jones and published during Christmas eve.

“Can’t even (be) with you all the time coz she’s busy traveling and fulfilling her dreams. If she’s a wonder woman for you @jerichorosales official she should get pregnant and be a real woman!!!” the netizen said.

Fortunately, Jericho defended his wife and said, “I don’t think getting preggy and having babies is the only measure for being a woman... I love that my wife travels and works (for) her dreams,” he said. “Makes me really proud. Have the best holiday season. Peace and love to you from us.”

Jones, for her part, expressed her gratitude and posted a reply saying, “a woman’s worth and the measure of a ‘real woman’ comes from a multitude of qualities. Thank you for believing my dreams are worth chasing whatever they may be.”

Truly, most are fixated with the thought that a woman’s purpose in life is to get married and have a child. But this, the same as all other privileges in life, is not for everyone. Having a child is a choice and it’s totally fine if some would choose not to have one (yet). However, being able to bear a child is not only the couple’s decision, it also depends on God’s will as there are others who have been married long and desparate to have children but are still waiting for a miracle that God will grant them their earnest prayer.

Indeed, bearing a child is not the sheer purpose of a woman. One is not made less of a woman if she can’t or she does not want to bear a child.
