104 Tagumenyos receive land title

-

TAGUM City, Davao del Norte – The wait is finally over.

In line with the Eagle Wings program under the social services sector, the residents of Tagumpay La Filipina Village received their original land title in time for Christmas last December 22, 2017.

The certificates are considered gifts by the 104 out of 128 residents of Tagumpay village who received the original land titles.

The remaining 24 are expected to receive theirs in early 2018.

The giving of the land certificates was led by local chief executive Allan L. Rellon.

Tagumpay La Filipina Village is more than 6,000 square meters. The land was supposed to be appropriated for a public market for the barangay council. However, for more than two decades it served as a residential area. Through the local housing board of the city, the land was converted fully into a residential area.

Esperanza Estores, a resident of the village, said this is indeed good news. The turnover of the land means that they can now modify their homes and not worry about setting up a new house elsewhere. It is also convenient because they are near the public market, school, church, and their barangay office.

“Lipay gyud kaayo ang among pasko kay nahatag na gyud sa amo ang titulo.” (Our Christmas is full of joy because we now have our [land] titles.), she added with tears of joy.

Likewise, Maximo Leopoldo, president of the Tagumpay La Filipina Village Homeowners’ Association, said that he feels the same way. He is one of the residents who are already there for more than two decades. He reminded his fellow residents to treat their land titles as treasures and gifts that can only come once in their lives.

“Ato ning hatagan ug dako nga importansiya… unta dili ni makawang, sayang!” (Let’s give it huge importance. I hope [the struggles and land titles] will not be in vain.)

The conversion was made possible through the urban and development housing act 7279 which stated that if the land didn’t serve its intended purpose, it would be open for socialized housing projects. Ziyarah Manalo/CIO Tagum
